The Separate Energy Storage Device (SESD) based Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) used to protect consumers from the grid voltage fluctuations like Long and Short-Duration Voltage Variations. This paper analyses the operation principle of the SESD based DVR and its design is based on simple PI control method and decision making switch to compensate Long and Short-Duration Voltage Variations. During short-duration voltage variation super capacitor and fuel cell hybrid system is used to compensate the fault. In the same way during long-duration voltage variation photovoltaic (PV) system or backup battery or other grid is used to compensate the fault based on the availability. Using MATLAB/SIMULINK, the models of the SESD based DVR is establish, and the simulation tests are performed to evaluate the system performances.

In the past, fixed conventional power system stabilizers are designed based on linearized model of power systems for particular operating conditions. These stabilizers are effectively used for damping out low frequency oscillations. When the Power System is suddenly loaded or removed, it is subjected to oscillations which results in increased settling time i.e., the system becomes unstable. Hence the conventional Power System Stabilizer is not effective. So in order to overcome the disadvantage and to enhance the system damping, the generators are equipped with modern Power System Stabilizers that provide supplementary feedback stabilizing signals in the excitation systems. This can be designed by a heuristic method called PSO which is a robust stochastic optimization technique that works based on the movement and intelligence of swarms. It uses a number of agents (particles) that constitute a swarm moving around in the search space looking for the best solution. It is preferred in order to achieve the optimal Eigen value for system stability and to reduce the settling time. Hence this technique holds best to tune the Power System Stabilizer parameters based on Settling time, Peak overshoot and Computation time. Keywords

The performance, emission and combustion characteristics of a single cylinder direct injection diesel engine fuelled with bael (Aegle marmelos) seed oil methyl ester (BOME), diesel and their blends (B20, B40, B60, B80 and B100) have been presented in this paper. BOME was prepared from bael seed oil with methanol by acid and alkali catalysed reaction due to high acid value of oil. The brake specific fuel consumption was higher for biodiesel due to its lower calorific value. Though BOME and its blends recorded lower brake thermal efficiency, they have lower tail pipe emissions as compared to diesel, except for NOx. Based on this study, bael biodiesel blend B20 (20% biodiesel + 80% diesel, by volume) can be partially substituted for diesel in existing diesel engines without any modification. Keywords

Omega-3 Omega-6 (n-3, n-6) family unsaturated fatty acids are known to be as dietary therapeutic substances, prescribed in coronary heart disease (CHD) due to their beneficiary effects. Although fish oils were known to be good source of unsaturated fatty acids (20:5, 22:6), the precursor (18:3, 18:2) of these long chain unsaturated fatty acids containing vegetable oils are seldom mentioned.- Characterization of Nickel-Based ODS Alloy

The present work aims at the synthesis of Ni-ODS alloy by powder metallurgy route and employing a new processing technique namely spark plasma sintering. The mechanically alloyed powders are compacted at different temperatures at relatively shorter sintering times to arrive at 97% density. The compacted samples were investigated using SEM/EDS and TEM showing nanograins which significantly increase the strength and hardness when compared to micrograined materials. The work involves a detailed and thorough characterization of the synthesized alloy. Keywords

Purpose - The aim of this paper is to optimize the capacitor value of a single phase open well submersible motor operating under extreme voltage conditions using fuzzy logic optimization technique and compared with no-load volt-ampere method. This is done by keeping the displacement angle (α) between main winding and auxiliary winding near 90°, phase angle (φ) between the supply voltage and line current near 0°. The optimization work is carried out by using Fuzzy Logic Toolbox software built on the MATLAB technical computing environment with Simulink software. Findings - The optimum capacitor value obtained is used with a motor and tested for different supply voltage conditions. The vector diagrams obtained from the experimental test results indicates that the performance is improved from the existing value. Originality/value - This method will be highly useful for the practicing design engineers in selecting the optimum capacitance value for single phase induction motors to achieve the best performance for operating at extreme supply voltage conditions. Keywords

This project presents a stabilization scheme for a three-phase grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) system to control the current injected into the grid and dc-link voltage to extract maximum power from photovoltaic (PV) units. The scheme is achieved mainly based on the design of a controller using a partial feedback linearizing approach of feedback linearization where the stabilization of the scheme is ensured by considering uncertainties within the PV system mode. The performance of the stability enhancement is evaluated on a three-phase grid-connected PV system in terms of delivering maximum power under changes in atmospheric conditions. In the grid connected PV system the control objectives are met by a strategy using a pulse width modulation (PWM) scheme based on two cascaded control loops. The two cascaded control loops consist of an outer voltage control loop to settle the PV array at the Maximum Power Point (MPP) and an inner current control loop to establish the duty ratio for the generation of a sinusoidal output current which is in phase with the grid voltage.

Particles reinforced aluminum alloys are interesting materials for technological applications because they exhibit higher stiffness, hardness, wear resistance and lower thermal expansion. Also, hybrid metal matrix composites with different reinforcements are now being considered as a vital class of high-performance materials for structural and nonstructural applications. In this paper, an attempt has been made to produce aluminum hybrid composites by powder metallurgy with silicon carbide (SiC) and flyash as the dispersoids. The hardness, wear resistance, tensile and compressive properties of the specimens were analyzed by varying the percentage of SiC alone when flyash was maintained a constant. The Influence of cryogenic treatment on all the above said properties was also Investigated. Increasing the % volume fraction showed greater wear resistance, hardness, improved tensile strength and reduced compressive strength. Cryogenically treated specimens exhibit higher strength, hardness and compression properties.- Factors Influencing Students' Choice of Institutions for Higher Learning:An Empirical Analytical Study
